Being honest with yourself

The point of utilizing affirmations is not to lie to yourself – or pretend to be someone you’re not. If you’re feeling bad, don’t try to push the feeling aside.

Instead, accept and acknowledge that you are human and it is perfectly okay for you to feel whatever you feel.

Then, and only then, begin to apply positive statements. If you can’t bring yourself to believe what you’re saying, start out with something you can believe.

For example:

If saying “I am beautiful” feels too weird start out by saying something like “I am in the process of believing I am beautiful.”

Don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself to change your beliefs overnight.

These things take time.
